Palm Beach Flappers Fundraiser
04/26/2010 - By Palm Beach, FL

Palm Beach Flappers Fundraiser

With the larger-than-life persona and generous spirit of the late Cathleen McFarlane Ross filling the room, more than 350 of her friends and the supporters of the charities so dear to her heart filled The Beach Club dining room on April 17, 2010.

The Palm Beach Flappers benefit continued McFarlane Ross’ tradition and netted nearly $200,000 to help fund programs that provide help to the growing homeless population in Palm Beach County.

Chaired by Margie McCloskey and co-chaired by Margo dePeyster and Denise McCann, the speakeasy-themed event featured a comfort food menu that included The Beach Club’s famous meatloaf, chicken pot pie, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas and apple pie – served buffet-style to save on costs. Live and lively music was provided by Skip Francis and his band, whose tunes from the twenties filled the dance floor all night long. The evening’s floor show entertainers were personally selected by McFarlane Ross.

Guests included Walter Ross, Bob and Lydia Forbes, Bridget Healey, Bob and Paula Butler, Chris and Karen Watkins, Tim and June Rooney, Jane Grace, Joanie Van der Grift, Howard Lyboldt, Joanne Colt, Matthew and Ann-Michelle Natale, John and Juliana Koch, Bill and Rebecca Dunn, John and Chris Nyheim, Marques and Marquesa San Damian, Brooks and Sally Ricca, Alan and Virginia Eades, Mitchell and Karen Watson, Peter and Kay Lyons, Bill and Anna Mann, Antony and Mary Underwood, Dudley and Peggy Moore, Phil and Inge Bowdre, Tom Boland, Lurana Campanaro, Leslie Rose and Denise McCann.

McFarlane Ross formed The Palm Beach Flappers in order to increase awareness and much-needed funds for Palm Beach County’s homeless population. Not only did she raise money to benefit the cause, but she also spent time working directly with those less fortunate who needed a hand. Her efforts led to the growth of The Lord’s Place and the creation of St. Ann’s Place Hygiene Center, which provides much-needed services for individuals living on the streets, including hygiene facilities, food programs, heath care, housing and job support. The services supported by The Palm Beach Flappers are geared toward assisting homeless people to make a better life for themselves, as well as to end the cycle of homelessness.
