Young Friends of the Norton “Walk Like an Egyptian”
02/17/2011 - By West Palm Beach, Florida

More than 70 members and guests of the Young Friends of the Norton attended a “Walk Like an Egyptian”-themed reception at the Museum on Feb. 17.

Features of the evening included a guided tour of the new exhibition To Live Forever: Egyptian Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum, led by Chief Curator Roger Ward; Egyptian-inspired hors d’oeuvres and cocktails; and a dance performance by local belly dancer Brianna Austin.

Seen at the Young Friends event were Zak Odhwani; Christina Urena; JoAnna Ballarini; Leai Michaud; Sara Burns; Damienne de Cristo; Daniel and Shanna Kahan; Jenny Clark; Brandon Bentivegna; Kimberly Denney; Jason Arbuckle; and Natalie Dunn.

Encompassing more than 100 objects drawn from the Brooklyn Museum’s world-renowned holdings of ancient Egyptian art, To Live Forever: Egyptian Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum explores the Egyptians’ beliefs about life, death, and the afterlife; the process of mummification; the conduct of a funeral; and the different types of tombs—answering questions at the core of the public’s fascination with ancient Egypt. The special exhibition is open at the Norton Museum through May 8.
